Dairy milk consumption started over 6,000 years ago and it was considered a rarity, regular consumption of dairy milk began some time later by early farmers and pastoralists in Western Europe. Today milk and dairy products are common items on most household shopping lists across many parts of the globe.

The global milk production was about 940 million tons in 2021 and is expected to reach 950 million in 2022. The growing demand calls for a focus on finding and fine-tuning sustainable solutions to decrease greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions and provide a sustainable future for dairy farmers.

DeLaval is a leading world provider of milking equipment, providing sustainable solutions to dairy farmers to ensure high quality milk and animal health while making sustainable food production possible.

Automated Cow Comfortability

DeLaval’s approach to sustainable food production centres heavily on its solutions to support farmers efficiency and animal care. DeLaval VMS™ V300, an automated milking machine that works to improve the productivity and longevity of the herd while providing insights on herd welfare, is doing just that.

The VMS series (DeLaval VMS™ V300 and V310) is the result of dedicated research and development with the dairy farmers' needs at the centre, working to incur fewer labour costs while producing more milk per day with a quick teat attachment rate. It also ensures that limited milk is wasted during this process.

Designed to help farmers produce milk efficiently and safely, to meet the growing demands of consumers without endangering quality standards or animal welfare.

“The machine is designed to cater to each cow's individual needs, encouraging them to reach their full potential on a voluntary basis because healthy, comfortable animals, they live longer, they produce more and they are profitable for the dairy farmer.”

DeLaval’s tailored approach to enabling farmers with a means to produce sustainable food and increased profitability comes from almost 140 years of innovation and providing unique solutions for individual farm needs, ensuring farmers and animals are the primary benefactors to the change they are working for.

“All farmers in the world face the same challenges. It's about farm profitability, work efficiency, animal welfare and food safety. At DeLaval, we work to improve all of those at the same time...”

Environmental Sustainability

DeLaval’s continuous focus on sustainability and milk production is powered by its mission to reduce the global dairy footprint and to provide better working conditions for farmers.

DeLaval is working towards meeting the UN Climate Change goals by striving to reduce the environmental impact of every glass of milk, influenced by their own materiality analysis and customer insights. Striving to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, energy usage and water waste across the fourteen factories and seven research and development centres.

DeLaval's commitment to sustainability directly influences their work with customers through developing products and solutions that will aid them in reducing their own environmental footprint, with a focus on improved food production, profitability and the wellbeing of people and animals.
