As the world population grows, the demand for safe food grows. But to meet rising demands in a sustainable way, we must become more efficient with our existing resources. This is where Hamlet Protein comes in.

Hamlet protein was founded 30 years ago in Denmark, quickly expanding to deliver safe and sustainable animal feed to farmers across the world. CEO Erik Visser explains the patented bio-conversion process behind their animal feed solution, saying:

“We eliminate so-called anti-nutritional factors and create a very palatable and highly digestible product that can be included in the diet of young animals. And in that early life stage, make a difference that will have an effect and a better performance throughout their life cycle.”

Consumers have become increasingly more conscious about what they eat and where it comes from, with rising demands to eliminate the use of antibiotic growth promoters. Their use has been banned in many places around the world as consumers demand to limit medication in the feed.

“By investing in the right animal nutrition, we can be more efficient with the level of animal feed that’s required to produce animal protein,” says Visser.

Hamlet Protein works with research institutes, universities, and farmers around the world to test their concept and improve their offerings. According to Pernille Rasmussen, a bioengineer at Hamlet Protein, the uniqueness of Hamlet’s production is a controlled enzyme treatment:

“By doing that, it allows us to change a variable raw material into a consistent high-quality product. Our products succeed when the animals are healthy, when they are growing effectively without being subjected to all the well-known diseases or complications.”

According to Hamlet Protein, many of their customers come to them with animals suffering from poor feed intake, post weaning diarrhea, and slow growth.

These challenges come from many different factors and nutrition being one of them. Producers who use Hamlet Protein products typically see improved feed intake, improved growth, and more efficient animals with less gut health problems.

They believe that the well-being of animals starts with health. The challenge is applying the correct nutritional strategies that fit the conditions on the farm. Hamlet Protein developed a functional fiber solution that, according to them, will play an important role in gut health.

In addition to their role as leaders in young animal nutrition, Hamlet Protein has also made the reduction of their carbon footprint a consistent goal.

“We have created a solution that redirects excess heat from the plant to warm more than 3000 homes of the Horsens community,” says CEO Erik Visser.

By supplying a sustainable animal feed solution to farmers around the world, Hamlet Protein is working to help farmers develop solutions to produce food in a more sustainable and effective way.
