Today, steel is regarded as one of the most significant engineering and construction materials in various aspects of our lives. Nonetheless, the industry is now facing environmental and economic pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, while continuing to provide one of the most crucial materials. Studies have suggested that the global steel market is expected to have a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 3% during 2023-2030, bringing this pressing challenge to the industry's top priority.

Danieli, a world-leading supplier of equipment, plants, and services for the metals industry, has made significant strides in this regard through its focus on innovation and technology This focus has allowed the company to deliver cutting-edge solutions to customers worldwide.

Vice President of Danieli Green Metal, Antonio Sgro, explains that the company’s goal is to address environmental issues and form efficient solutions. Mr. Sgro says, "Danieli always invested in results aiming to optimize the steel production, which means reducing the production cost and increasing the productivity. These actions are also strictly correlated to emission reduction."

One of Danieli's most significant innovations is its Q-ONE, a digital power feeder that offers steel producers digital control, real-time data analytics and optimization tools, enabling them to improve operations, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.

Q-ONE uses advanced digital power electronic technology to provide a comprehensive set of parameters that enable precise control and a smooth melting process. By identifying  bottlenecks and other inefficiencies, Danieli Q-ONE enables customers to make informed decisions and quickly respond to changes in the process.

Antonello Mordeglia, the President of Danieli Automation, elaborates, "With Q-ONE, we convert AC energy from the network into DC. We have a very big energy buffer localized close to the furnace and then we convert again DC back to AC. At the point of conversion, we have control over the energy."

Furthermore, Q-ONE is designed to be compatible with various renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power, making it a more sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for steelmaking.

Danieli's portfolio of technologies has transformed the metalmaking industry, delivering significant improvements in production efficiency, quality, and sustainability.

Tokyo Steel in Japan, for instance, reduced energy consumption by 12% and achieved a 20% decrease in power-on time by leveraging Danieli's Q-ONE technology. In North America, MIDA technology elevated rolling speed by up to 10 m per minute and resulted in an overall yield improvement of over 99%. Meanwhile, ENERGIRON® helped a Direct Reduced Iron plant in the Middle East capture CO2 and reduce emissions by 80%, while Danieli's QSP-DUE improved the mechanical and geometrical quality and yield of a steel plant in China, simultaneously reducing production costs by up to 50% compared to conventional hot-strip mills.

These remarkable achievements demonstrate Danieli's commitment to driving positive change and setting the standard for sustainable practices.
