About 35% of global greenhouse gas emissions originate from the food industry. With the world’s population expected to grow by 33% by 2050, the need for more sustainable food production has become of paramount importance.

SmartParc is an innovative new business park solution, which is specifically designed to address the challenges facing food manufacturers. It is dedicated to the development of sustainable food production to ensure global security, while meeting increased demand.

SmartParc is a collection of specialist food manufacturing parks, which enable collaboration between businesses, encourage innovation and increase production efficiency. SmartParc’s First State-of-the-Art Facility in the Heart of England

In collaboration with commercial property developer SEGRO, SmartParc has developed a state-of-the-art food manufacturing and distribution park on a 155 acre site in Derby, in the East Midlands, which is designed to encourage business collaboration and sustainable practice.

Derby has a reputation for engineering excellence. SmartParc and SEGRO are dedicated to leveraging this heritage and applying it to the food industry, which is a staggering 10-15 years behind other comparable sectors.

The Derby facility is designed to deliver 20% cost savings through the following reductions;

  • Energy - recycling and balancing around the SmartParc energy hub.
  • Water usage - water harvesting, treatments and recycling.
  • Transportation emissions - shared logistics hub to reduce food miles
  • Waste – 5% reduction in food waste and 10% reduction in general waste year on year.

“We’re answering all the questions the food industry asks when they’re looking for a new building, and we’re delivering it to them in these new facilities. They don’t have to apply for utility upgrades, it’s all here ready to be taken.”
