Beretta

What makes a 500-year family company a strong industry leader today?

Founded in 1526 in Gardone Val Trompia (Italy) by the Beretta Family, who has been leading the company for 15 generations, Fabbrica d’Armi Pietro Beretta is an international manufacturer of commercial and military firearms, and products designed for outdoor sports such as hunting, competition, and tactical shooting.

Featuring the most modern manufacturing and R&D technologies, assembly lines, quality control and local highly qualified workers, who hand down the Italian tradition of gun-smithing since the Renaissance, Beretta managed to achieve the degree of quality, performance, and safety that made it a world-renowned brand.

Now, approaching its 500 years anniversary, Beretta reveals what will be its focus for the next 500 years: the approach towards innovation, the commitment for sustainability, and the strong bond with the community of the mountain valley the Company has been in since its foundation.

Being a family business with solid territorial and financial roots, the huge investments in innovation have always been a propellent for the competitive advantage of the Company, as well as for the growth of the whole industry.

The innovation is pervasive: product development, automation, industry 4.0., additive manufacturing, product and factory virtual prototyping, digitalization on all Company levels.

The cooperation with partners and universities is also a core asset for Beretta, exploring IoT and sensing for situational awareness and logistics, Augmented and Mixed Reality, AI for process mining and simulation, predictive maintenance, quality control and gesture recognition.

What about sustainability?

Beretta has been working on the reduction of its environmental impact starting from 1913, when building its first hydro-power plant along the banks of the Mella river.

Today, Beretta auto-produces 45% of its energy through hydro and solar power and has in place a wide range of initiatives to make its activity more sustainable. BEPlanet is an all-around project that affects every design and production stage of Beretta, embracing the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, and translating them into specific actions for smart energy management, contaminated sites remediation, reduction of carbon footprint, raw material consumption, waste production and use of hazardous substances.

Be Planet is a call-to-action, an invitation to responsibility that also involves employees, institutions and enthusiasts who share a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to deliver a better environment to future generations.

The role of hunting and sport shooting is also crucial: the benefits for the natural balance provided by hunters and the improvement of mental health offered by shooting sports are a special asset in the Beretta commitment to also make the activity of its customers more sustainable.

The secret ingredient to achieve all of this?

Everyone at Beretta will tell you it’s about the passion of the people. Beretta represents a strong bond with their territory and their family history, a pride, and a way to export their expertise worldwide. Empowering these people to develop new skills and a new mindset and to be free to innovate is a key success factor that got Beretta where it is today.
